The Diocese of Davenport is currently looking for a Director of Evangelization. This will be a full-time exempt position.

JOB PRIMARY PURPOSE/FUNCTION

The Director of Evangelization supports and promotes the Church’s teachings on evangelization. The Director works through a collaborative approach with chancery staff, clergy, mentors, parish and school evangelization teams and staffs to foster commitment to and integration of evangelization throughout every aspect of Catholic life and ministry in the Diocese. 

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THE DIRECTOR OF EVANGELIZATION

  1. Assists pastors, principals and administrators in leading cultural change from maintenance mode to mission
  • Works closely with multicultural, youth and young adult ministries in promoting evangelization
  • Dedicates a significant amount of time in the Diocese working with parishes and schools in forming and mobilizing missionary disciples
  • Responds to the concerns of Catholics who are inactive, alienated or on the peripheries and to inquiries from those interested in the Catholic faith
  • Develops and provides on-going formational resources, workshops and programs to foster evangelization in parishes, schools and the chancery based on principles found in Evangelii Gaudium
  • Utilizes computer technology as a means of communication and evangelization in addition to personal interaction
  • Represents the Office of Evangelization at meetings of Diocesan groups as needed
  • Maintains contact with Diocesan and national organizations as needed

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

  1. Advanced degree in theology, pastoral ministry or related field
  • A minimum of five years of experience in evangelization
  • Experience in a team-oriented, interdepartmental approach in collaborations

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Effective oral and written communication; bilingual abilities are a plus
  • Sound, competent decision-making and maintenance of confidentiality with regard to all sensitive information
  • Flexibility in performing designated duties
  • Practicing Roman Catholic with an ability to articulate the Church’s theology and teaching
  • Understand, support and articulate the philosophy of evangelization in the broadest sense as taught by the Church
  • Sensitivity to cultural diversity and needs within the Church
  • Understanding of and ability to use current technology
